TORTOISES At Tiggy's we currently have Horsefield or Russian tortoises for sale. We currently have horsefield tortoises available all year round at £135 each. We also sell complete tortoise starter kits, heat mats, feed dishes, food pellets and vivarium decorations. Below is a care sheet for these amazing creatures.

| Housing Horsefield tortoises are brilliant diggers, they like to have a thick layer of substrate in their vivarium or tortoise table to allow them to perform their natural instincts. Horsefield tortoises like to make burrows to settle into during the day to keep away from the heat, therefore it is important you keep the heat source in your tortoise home at the opposite end to the burrow. An easy way to |
recognise where the burrow will be is put a thin layer of substrate at the heat end and a thick layer of substrate at the thicker end. To help the tortoise with the building of their burrows spray the substrate lightly once a week to make the substrate slightly moist, do not make the water too damp or this will have an adverse effect. Horsefields also love to climb, therefore interesting objects such as rock formations and vivarium faunia should be placed in the housing to enrich the tortoise. |
Diet Horsefields have similar dietary requirements to Hermanns tortoises. A weed based diet is the cheapest and most nutritonal option, however tortoise pellets and food are available at the shop. Supplements of vegetables such as cabbage, cauliflower leaves, peppers, cucumber and lettuce are also welcomed by the tortoise. The tortoise should have access to a calcium source to aid shell growth, you can simply place a cuttlefish bone in the enclosure or you can crush up a cuttlefish bone to a fine powder and sprinkle it on the food. Water should be provided in a shallow dish, we have suitable water dishes available at the store.

| Health And Bonding We will never knowingly sell a tortoise or any other animal if we think it is unhealthy or has any other problems. However a few steps are in order by you as a keeper to ensure the animals are in good shape. Worms are a fact of life for tortoises and they are easily susceptible to parasites in the wild, so worming them once or twice a year will be beneficial and will prevent any parasite related illnesses. Worming tablets can be purchased in store |
